About Me
Kat Abe has been lucky to call several places home. She was born and raised in New York City but has lived in multiple places including Vermont, Texas, and China. She credits her diverse experiences with shaping her values and making her a great listener and communicator. Kat currently resides in Tampa, Florida, where she enjoys running, bookstore hopping, and taking barre classes. She plans to relocate to Portland, Oregon, in June 2025.
Kat Abe has a Master's Degree in Instructional Design and Technology from the University of Tampa. She is an active member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, a distinction awarded to the top 10% of graduate students. She graduated magna cum laude from Middlebury College with a B.A. in Political Science.
Over the course of five years, Kat earned designation as an Exemplary Teacher and Master Teacher from the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA), representing the top 5% of Texas teachers by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). She was featured in Ed Post discussing best practices for using educational technology. Kat was awarded a Kinder Excellence in Teaching Award in 2022.
Kat worked with the Learning & Development team at ALSAC - St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which Forbes ranks among the top three largest charities in the U.S. During her time there, Kat played a key role in launching a four-day training program in Memphis, Tennessee. She refined her multimedia skills in video editing and assisted lead instructional designers in the creation of training resources.
What I Offer
Strong virtual and front-of-room facilitation skills: I’ve run both in-person and virtual training sessions, even with audiences who weren’t initially motivated. What sets me apart is my ability to make content feel approachable, add a touch of humor, and keep the vibe positive and engaging.
Project Management Skills: I stay organized by coordinating with teammates on project timelines and managing multiple tasks while consistently meeting deadlines. I am tenacious about seeing projects through to completion.
Strong Analytical, Communication, and Interpersonal Skills: When it comes to discovery conversations and identifying learning opportunities for a targeted group, it is important to ask the right questions. I ask questions to understand others well, and to understand the problem or context better.
